THE POMPEY PARAS INVITE YOU TO

The Best FREE Military Show will take place over the weekend of:

Saturday 12th July 2008 Veterans Day
Sunday 13th July 2008 Airborne Forces Day
Southsea Common

Following last years immensely successful Veterans / Airborne Forces Weekend on Southsea Common,
‘The Serving Personnel & Veterans Agency’ of the Ministry of Defence are pleased to award ‘Pompey Paras’ the honour of once again hosting one of only twelve National Flagship Veterans Day events. This year promises to be even larger and our most successful event yet.

We are pleased to announce that the event is supported and sponsored by the Serving Personnel & Veterans Agency, Portsmouth City Council, National Heritage The Royal Armouries, The Parachute Regiment and the Territorial Army.

The object of the weekend is increase the general public’s awareness of Veterans, present and future, within the community and also to increase veteran’s awareness of the amount of support that is available to them. However Sunday still remains ’Airborne Forces Day’.

There will be many exciting attractions, including TA100, the 100th Anniversary of the Territorial Army incorporating all the TA units stationed in Hampshire, with the latest equipment and personnel on show.

On Saturday the TA arena events will encompass Chinook, Apache and Gazelle helicopter enacting a battle scenario with all the pyrotechnics imaginable to add to the exciting realism of the display.

Saturday also brings for the first time to our event The Band of the Royal Marines both leading the Parade and providing their usual immaculate arena display. Together with the other arena events, sideshows and displays will provide a Saturday full of excitement and interest for all ages.

Sunday, being ‘Airborne Forces Day South’ retains all of the sideshows and static displays provided on the Saturday but completely different arena attractions.

This year we decided to break the format of previous years and have included such diverse events as:

The Essex Dog Display Team
The Solent Eagles Children’s Motorcycle Display Team

The Fort Nelson Royal Armouries Artillery
The Rose & Thistle Pipes and Drums

and of course

 The Red Devils
The Parachute Regiment Band
.

An up to date list of all attractions is available from our website: www.pompeyparas.org.

There will be an open air service on both days at the Southsea War Memorial at 1030hrs and we are looking for a large Standard Bearers attendance so please encourage your Standard Bearers to attend.

The parades on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th will both form up in The Avenue Du Caen at 1330hrs, then proceed along the seafront and onto Southsea Common for 1400hrs.

The Pompey Paras look forward to seeing you over the weekend
on Southsea Common.

  1. ERSKINE HOSPITAL
  2. THE PARACHUTE REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION
  3. TULLOCHAN TRUST
  4. SSAFA-FORCES HELP

If you can manage to attend any of the locations listed above, even for 1 hour that would be a great help to the few that constantly attend, THEY!! could have a lunch break.

If for some reason you cannot attend then why not show your support for the Fundraising department by placing a branch collection can in your local Pub etc.  You can also make a personal donation to the branch in the form of cash or a gift for the raffle, if you like.

As you can see from the list above, it all goes to good causes, to name but a few.

Any questions then please direct to Denis Mc Cormick,
Head of Fundraising
