Poppy Certificate

Over a period of 4 days in early November 2008 branch members volunteered their time to raise funds for the Scottish Poppy appeal, in Glasgow Central Station. They raised an incredible £8,084:50pence for this very worthwhile cause. An incredible amount of money and an even more incredable achievement when you consider the majority of those who stood for hours sometimes were over 60/70/80/90 years of age.
This certificate awarded to us by Poppy Scotland proves once again that we as a Branch of the Parachute Regimental Association here in Scotland have members that without their help could not have raised this outstanding amount of money for this organization. We are sure acts like this no doubt help raise the profile of the branch.
TO ALL THOSE VOLUNTEERS!! Thanks once again.
ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
The Poppyscotland Hearts & Heroes Challenge is a maximum 12-hour walk or trail run for teams of four minimum. The fitness challenge has six categories: Age 16-18, Mixed (minimum 2 women) Women Only, Men Only, Fastest Armed Services Team, Fastest Rugby Team.
The 29-mile route commences at the southern end of St Mary’s Loch, working its way along the stunning Southern Upland Way, culminating in the beautiful town of Melrose. It is fitting that the challenge ends in this location as the founder of Poppyscotland, Field Marshal Earl Haig, was from nearby Bemersyde, where his son, the current Earl Haig, still lives today.
There are three finishes – bronze (12 miles), silver (21 miles) and gold, so that participants of all levels of fitness and ability can aim for a target that suits them.
Everyone will check in on the day before, Friday 15th, at the south end of St Mary’s Loch. Registrations will be open from 2pm to 11pm on Friday 15th at the southern end of St Mary’s Loch.
